Canoe Camping Ballymena – Castlerock, Northern Ireland

This trip will take us from Ballymena, down the River Maine, out into Lough Neagh. This is the largest lake in Ireland, the United Kingdom and the British Isles with an area of 151 square miles (19 miles long and 9.3 miles wide).

After paddling up to Toome, we enter the River Bann where we will stop for a tour around the Lough Neagh Fishermen’s Co-operative visitor centre and eel farm. Then we will take in The Crosskeys Inn; Ireland’s oldest thatched pub. We then continue into and down Lough Beg, a small 2 mile open water, back into The Bann and out to the sea at Castlerock.

2nd – 7th July 2023 

For this 6 day trip we will meet at Ballymena and shuttle vehicles so they are at the end waiting for us. All meals during expedition are included. Canoes, paddling equipment and dry bags are supplied, if required. Tents can be made available on request. This trip will be led by a British Canoeing Endorsed Guide supported by a very knowledgeable local guide.
